Manifesta 9; Identity and Visual Communication

about
‘ Identity and Visual Communication‘

The monumental letters in the logo for Manifesta 9 echo the architecture of the industrial heritage in the mining area around Genk in Limburg, Belgium. An abandoned mine head is the setting for Manifesta 9 (2 June-30 September 2012), the European Biennale for Contemporary Art. The content and presentation of every biennale are influenced by the location. The visual identity of Manifesta 9 reflects the robust atmosphere of the mines in the typography. The interplay of lines that ensues symbolizes an underground world that covers a huge area to a depth of two kilometres.
