thomas’ diary

Fontanel asked Thomas to keep a diary of his week. His week covered the progress of the new thonik studio, celebrating an important 10-year anniversary and discovering the possibilities of coding.

We work with being, but non-being is what we use” – Lao Tzu

thonik’s Simpson Tse, who is a designer from Hong Kong and often works on Chinese projects, showed his talents in a Dutch project. thonik took a bow when we presented the new identity to the Kunstenbond.

The Kunstenbond is there for all Dutch artists and is absolutely vital in this day and age where there is still the tendency to keep cutting costs on the arts. Granted, our current minister has freed up an extra ten million euros, but this is peanuts compared to the budget cut of 200 million euros on the creative sector in Holland. Therefore we gave the Kunstenbond a logo which is open & responsive and reflects their objective of ‘creating room for the creator’. The strategy was developed by Roel Stavorinus.

And good news from China: our posters are selected for the Shenzhen International Poster Festival. We send in two designs, both by design-talent Roy Terhorst, one for HF 2016 and one for animal-day.
